I founded Personalized Precepting after experiencing firsthand how overwhelming the transition from nursing school to the bedside can be.
As a new grad in 2017, I remember what it felt like to question everything, feel behind, and wonder if I was cut out for nursing at all. What I later realized is that this experience isn’t unique. It’s incredibly common, and it has far more to do with lack of guidance than lack of ability.
Over the past 9 years, I've worked across the country as both a staff nurse and travel nurse, caring for patients in medical-surgical units and ICUs, in both adult and pediatric settings. Throughout my career, I have consistently taken on the role of preceptor, working closely with new nurses during one of the most challenging periods of their careers.
Through that experience, I noticed a pattern. Many new nurses and students weren’t struggling because they weren’t capable. They were struggling because they didn’t have enough time, repetition, or support to truly understand how to think through real patient situations.
Personalized Precepting was created to fill that gap.
